Heartworm Prevention

When mosquitoes bite your dog or cat, they can transmit heartworms. Heartworms can severely and sometimes fatally damage your pet’s heart and lungs. The most common signs of heartworms are coughing and becoming easily fatigued.

It is possible for cats to get heartworms, but it is extremely rare. Treatment for heartworm infection is far more expensive than prevention. Fortunately, there’s an easy way to keep your dog or cat safe: administering monthly heartworm prevention. Many heartworm medications also protect your pet against other parasites, such as intestinal parasites, ear mites, fleas, and ticks. During your pet’s exam we can discuss which heartworm prevention will work best for you, or call us for a refill! Please remember: Give your pet their heartworm prevention every month, year-round!
